Eye On Detail

Black Car Detailing/Swirl free Polishing

Sometime  ago I got a call from a prospective customer who outlined to me that he had his vehicle detailed   by a local detailer and was having some issues with the results. He owned a black Acura MDX and had taken it in to have it polished and waxed. He told me his vehicle in the sunlight now looked worst than when he took it in and the detailer was not prepared to address the issue. After failing to get his money refunded he called another detailer who came out to his house and spent several hours trying to correct the damage on one section of the car. Two visits and several $$$ later the problem still persisted. Below is a picture supplied by the customer of the first detail job.

In my opinion this detailer acted in good faith seeking to remove scratches that were in the paint. The removal of scratches takes you down a very narrow road with no margins for error. Some scratches will be hair line and its appearance can be improved by polishing others are deep enough to go all the way to the base/color coat as seen below. These scratches most times cannot be improved upon without adding paint as a touch up or a repaint of that panel. Also keep in mind that the cross section shown below may be just as thick as a strand of hair.

Somehow this client was told that he had to have his vehicle repainted to have this issue resolved. Well he called me as a last resort perhaps hoping against the odds. I invited him in for an inspection and can you imagine his glee when I told him that he did not need a repaint and that his paint could be corrected .Again please find below images supplied by the customer to demonstrate that black vehicles can be successfully polished.

This story has resurfaced because his wife has now purchased a 2005 Honda pilot which will be getting a professional polish and wax job soon. Black cars are really very beautiful when properly cared for and requires a little more attention and know how.
