Mama said life is like a box of chocolate......... Well buying a used car is like a box of chocolate you never know what is in your seats or carpet. This past week I had two clients who when they saw what was coming out of their upholstery that was being steamed cleaned was to say it mildly shocked. One commented there goes the five seconds rule.
Spills, dust, sweat and dirt in general is over time absorbed into your vehicles upholstery and becomes bonded with the fabric and foam. Regular vacuum and periodic shampoo is required to reduce this effect. This is compounded when you buy a used car. You simply don’t know what has been spilled into the upholstery. People with skin conditions and allergy can be affected here without even being aware. Families with small children should especially have their vehicle interior detailed at least once a year. Also anyone who purchase a used car should consider an interior detail as a part of their purchase consideration.
A proper car interior detail will include the steam cleaning of the fabric (non-leather), floor mats, carpet and headliner. An extractor is required to have this job done professionally as merely wiping the fabric with a soap solution will not remove what might have become deposited into the fabric. If the vehicle has a cabin filter this should be examined and perhaps replaced.
The fabric should be rinse thoroughly (using extractor) to ensure the complete removal of the cleaning solution and any dirt residue. Care must always be taken when using an extractor not to flood the fabric. The vehicles interior should be thoroughly dried. Failure to observe these guidelines may result in an odor in your vehicle that will only be removed by being properly cleaned n and often the use of another machine to eliminate the odor.
The vehicle pictured here was brought in for an interior detail and odor removal. The previous owners had pet(s) as was evident from pet hair and odor. The seats were removed to facilitate greater cleaning coverage and ventilation to reduce dry time. Following the cleaning process a machine was used to assist the odor removal.
