A recent client took his 15,000 miles SUV to a local car wash for a basic cleaning. The vehicle had a foreign substance bonded to the surface. The employee at the facility did his best to address this issue and the result is shown below.
The client made a claim on the establishment and they were generous enough to have settled. The vehicle was then taken to me to have the issue resolved. I outlined to the client that I offered no guarantee I could fix this problem but assured him I could achieve at least an 80% improvement. The car wash employee wanted to satisfy the vehicles owner but was out of his depth. One of the many marks of a professional detailer is knowing his own skill level and when to concede defeat. There are some occasion when a body shop need to get involve and repainting is required.
I used refinishing skills and tools to sand the area essentially eliminating the myriad scratches. A few different grade abrasives disc were used and the gloss was restored using premium grade polishes. The option would have been having the panel repainted. Fortunately we did not have to go that route.
