Eye On Detail

Destination Green

Going Green

Let me start by saying I have heard of various companies going green and have looked at it very suspiciously. To go even further I thought an auto detailer who says his operation is going green would be an oxymoron .However as Oliver Wendell Holmes JR says “ A mind that is stretched to a new idea never returns to its original dimension”. So here I stand in the middle of a dilemma.
I have been doing some research and have found out that there is no standard in the green industry (similarly there is no governing body or standard in the auto detailing industry). As such I have resolved to find resources that would educate me on how to pursue this ideal.
Keeping in mind that success is a journey not a destination. I have made the following resolution:
1. To become certified as a green cleaning technician.
2. Reduce my water consumption.
3. Begin a process of evaluating chemicals I use with the objective of replacing them with products that are more eco-friendly.
My commitment to this process have already been tested with the knowledge that some of the chemicals I will need to replace will cost almost twice as much. I am hoping for a trade off in the volume I use. There is also a vapor steam pressure washer I plan to invest in that will significantly reduce my water consumption and produce better results. Again this will take cash outlay of about $4500.00. I guess you have to pay to play in this game. I am glad I don’t have to do this all at once and look forward to creating a healthier work environment which will benefit me and my clients.
I welcome any input on this subject by telephone or email.
